OverallIs this location worth a sunset visit?

The Tsing Ma Bridge is a famous landmark in Hong Kong that connects the main islands to the airport, therefore it is also the first great sight for many travelers visiting Hong Kong. It gets its name from the two islands it spans across namely Tsing Yi and Ma Wan. The government built a viewing platform for tourists to enjoy the great view of the bridge and luckily, the platform is on the east side of the bridge which means we can also enjoy the great sunset too!

  • The Tsing Ma Bridge adds a lot of uniqueness to your sunset photo that is hard to find elsewhere.
  • The sun is easily visible but make sure you have a wide angle lens to be able to include the bridge into your picture with the sun.
  • It is best to get here by car or taxi if you don’t have one, as parking is free. It is otherwise quite difficult to get here as public transport service is limited to only the minibus. From the car park, it’s just a 5 minutes walk to the viewing platform and only 10 minutes walk to the top of it.
  • Normally there are quite a lot of tourists at this place during the morning and afternoon, but seldom anyone stays until the evening as all the tours would have already taken their people to dinner in the city. This means there are only a handful of people at the platform waiting for the sunset, so generally speaking, you won’t need to worry about big crowds here.

Tips & Sharing

Due to the position of the sunset, in order to take a picture of it with the bridge, you must use an ultra wide angle lens (14mm or wider). Another thing to note is that there are some trees that might block the view of the bridge, you might need to set your tripod to the highest point to avoid them. And by the way, apart from the Tsing Ma Bridge, the location is also great in viewing the Ting Kau Bridge nearby, make sure you don’t miss it.
