OverallIs this location worth a sunset visit?

A hill of a fairy tale is located in Hokkaido, Abashiri-gun, Ozora-cho. Visible from the national highway No. 39, seven trees standing on a gentle hill of a large crop field. From the top of the hill, you can see the vast rural scenery and Lake Abashiri . It became a famous photo point after being the shooting location for the movie “Dream” directed by Akira Kurosawa released in 1990.

  • This place is extremely iconic and hard to find similar settings for sunset elsewhere.
  • Visibility to the sunset is wide open until it disappears off the horizon.
  • Best to drive here by car but there is no car park, you can stop your car briefly at the roadside. It is also a 25 minutes walk from JR Memanbetsu Station.
  • Usually no crowd at the location but may be run into another photographer randomly especially the locals like to stop by to take a sunset photo on their way home after work.
