OverallIs this location worth a sunset visit?

Yūhidai means sunset in Japanese, as the name suggests, it is a popular spot for seeing sunsets. It is at one corner of the Shiretoko Public Campsite and is popular also as a dating spot for young travelers. From spring to autumn, the setting sun casts a deep orange color on the surface of the sea, while in winter when the sea is covered with drift ice, the color changes to a golden yellow. Either way, the scenes are beautiful and impressive.

  • The view of the landscape and the sunset is almost perfect.
  • This place is born to be a sunset observation spot, its view is unbeatable.
  • It is best to drive here by car as there is a car park nearby. It is also approximately 1km from the Utoro bus terminal, and about 15 mins walk to here.
  • The viewing platform is extremely small. Although this location is very hidden and far, surprisingly, there are many passionate photographer here during the evening. You have to be here early to secure a spot for photo.
